Jesus told a story once to have a go at religious people

We know it as the story of the prodigal son but there were 3 main characters

  • 1. The Father who wanted the very best for both of his sons

  • 2. The elder son who was too busy working for his father to have fun

  • 3. The younger son who had spent all his dad’s cash on wine, women and song. Finally going from wine to swine

The father is a picture of God (and Jesus should know what God is like)

He waited patiently till his son was spent up and dining on pig swill.  (Not ideal for a Jewish lad)

When his son returned the father arranged a disco and splashed out on a new set of clothes and a ring. He also called all the neighbours to a BBQ but the elder son was not best pleased.

What that tells us is God loves parties and prodigals but he’s not over keen on religion
